Our House Saints
Our House Saints: Guiding Our Journey of Faith and Character
At St Edward’s Primary School, our four House Saints form a vital part of our school’s identity and community life. In fulfilment of our school mission statement, “Following Christ we reach our goals, ”these saints act as ‘lighthouses’ for our pupils. They provide a clear framework for character development, guiding our children on how to live out our Christian values, support one another, and faithfully follow Jesus in their daily lives.
When children join St Edward's, they are welcomed into a House Team, fostering a strong sense of belonging, mutual encouragement, and shared responsibility. Our House Saints inspire our children to cultivate specific virtues every single day:
- St John Bosco (Joy & Mentorship): Teaches us to lift others up with kindness, patience, and cheerfulness.
- St Anne Line (Constancy & Courage): Reminds us to stand firm in doing what is right and protect those who are vulnerable.
- St Josephine Bakhita (Resilience & Forgiveness): Demonstrates how to overcome hardships with hope and a gentle, forgiving heart.
- St Lorenzo Ruiz (Fidelity & Ordinary Holiness): Shows us that extraordinary virtue is built by doing our small, everyday duties with love and faith.
Catholic Life and Mission: Celebrating Our Gospel Values
Our house system plays a central role in promoting positive behaviour, personal growth, and the common good. Children earn house points by actively displaying our core Gospel values, showing excellent effort in their lessons, and producing high-quality work. In doing so, pupils learn that reaching their academic goals goes hand-in-hand with their spiritual growth and moral development.
Collective Worship: A Community United in Praise
Every week, our school community gathers for our Celebration of the Word, led by the Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher. This sacred time is a cornerstone of our prayer life, where we reflect on scripture and celebrate the achievements of the previous week.
As a visible sign of our shared efforts, the weekly house point totals are announced, and the winning house has their coloured ribbons proudly placed onto the House Cup. Through this tradition, we celebrate our collective dedication to community harmony, hard work, and our ultimate goal of following in the footsteps of Christ.

Home-School Partnership: Brighter Together
We warmly invite our parents and carers to join us in bringing our house virtues to life beyond the school gates. You can support your child's journey in Following Christ by:
- Talking about the saints: Ask your child which house saint they represent and what virtue they are focusing on this week.
- Spotting ordinary holiness: Celebrate the small, everyday moments where your child shows resilience, offers forgiveness, or lifts a sibling up with joy.
- Sharing in their success: Look out for house point updates and celebrate their effort, kindness, and hard work at home just as we do in school.
